BMW is finally offering an entry-level sedan with a front-wheel-drive setup based off of the 2 Series, which it exclusively produced  as a rear-wheel-drive-based coupe or convertible for years. Dubbed as the 2 Series Gran Coupe, the model is slated to go up against market rivals Mercedes-Benz and Audi once it launches.

The automaker announced the 2 Series Gran Coupe will be offered in two trim levels in the United States, both of which will be given a standard all-wheel-drive configuration.

But while the model has already entered production and was given a configurator for the UK market, it took a while for BMW to release the official pricing in the US. Fortunately for anticipating customers, the price is now available, and the model is relatively affordable for consumers.

The 228i xDrive Gran Coupe begins at $37,500, excluding the $995 destination charge, making the vehicle cheaper than its equivalent X2 and a little pricier than the entry-level Mercedes-Benz CLA. The base model is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 228 horsepower and is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It goes from 0 to 60 mph in 6.0 seconds.

BMW is also offering a front-wheel-drive version of the X2 sDrive28i for $36,400, while the equivalent xDrive28i model with an AWD configuration is more expensive at $38,400.

Consumers with a need for speed, meanwhile, can opt for the M235i xDrive Gran Coupe, which is available at $45,500 (plus the mandatory $995 destination fee). The higher price tag includes a 2.0-liter four-pot that makes up to 301 horsepower and goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds. It’s equivalent X2 M35i is priced at $46,450.

The 2 Series Gran Coupe is set to be the closest rival of the Mercedes-Benz CLA, which has a starting price of $36,650 for the base CLA 250 with front-wheel-drive. For an all-wheel-drive setup, the CLA 250 4Matic trim is available for $38,650. The CLA is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 208 horsepower.

BMW is expected to launch the 2 Series Gran Coupe in March 2020.
