More than 326,000 vehicles are being recalled by Ford across the United States, Canada, and Mexico as part of three safety campaigns, the largest of which affects the 2014-15 Ford Fiesta, 2014-16 Ford Fusion, and 2014-16 Lincoln MKZ.
The issue tied to the first recall can possibly cause car doors not to close or suddenly open while driving, increasing the risk of accidents or injury.
“The latch pawl spring-tab design is susceptible to cracking and failure in areas with high ambient temperatures,” the company said in a statement.
The safety campaign covers a total of 248,912 vehicles in the U.S., 19,431 in Mexico, and only 4 in Canada. The automaker said the problem can be fixed by removing and replacing the side door latches.
Also being recalled are some units of the 2021 Ford E-Series because the vehicles “may have frame-mounted wire harnesses that could, over time, chafe on the frame and damage the wire harness and the circuits within it.”
The problem here, meanwhile, may affect the fuel, towing, and anti-lock braking systems of the truck.
A total of 2,871 E-Series models are affected by the recall in the U.S., while 760 are in Canada. Ford, however, clarified it is not aware of any injuries or accidents that may have been caused by the problem.
On top of the two safety campaigns, a third recall was also issued on 54,292 units of the 2006-10 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, and Lincoln MKZ sedans in Canada.
“A normally closed valve inside the hydraulic control unit may stick open,” Ford said.
This may lead to longer brake pedal travel and increases the possibility of a crash. Ford already confirmed one incident associated with the problem.
For all three safety recalls, Ford will cover the necessary repair work at no cost to customers.
