Expect the off-road midsize pickup segment to be a tougher market for companies as GMC just announced it will be releasing a new rugged AT4 trim level for one of its trucks.
For the 2021 model year, the automaker is giving Canyon loyalists something to look forward to as the model joins the Acadia and Sierra among GMC pickups that carry an AT4 variant. It will also replace the previous model year’s Canyon All-Terrain.
The 2021 Canyon AT4 will feature 17-inch wheels and 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires, a specific off-road suspension setup, a skid plate, and a rear electronic locking limited-slip differential. Customers can also expect a larger front grille, red two hooks, and other interior add-ons such as AT4 badges embroidered on the headrests.
On top of the introduction of a new trim level for the Canyon, GMC is also making a few changes to its Denali trim in time for the next model year. The company has not released official photos, but the changes will reportedly include both interior and exterior upgrades that will see the Canyon Denali looking more like the GMC Sierra.
Among the new upgrades for the Denali trim are the addition of 20-inch aluminum wheels, a new grille, and more chrome accents. Interior-wise, the Denali will feature open-pore wood, contrasting stitch works, aluminum trim, standard equipment heated steering and heated and cooled front seats.
Both the AT4 and Denali trim levels of the Canyon will be powered by a standard 308-horsepower 3.6-liter V-6 engine, while a 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine that makes 369 lb-ft of torque is optional.
GMC is set to begin production of the 2021 Canyon AT4 in Missouri later this year.
