Amid the brand’s struggles in Japan after it was found guilty of misrepresenting its emissions numbers, Subaru reached a major milestone in the United States.

The brand has recently been making considerable success in the region and its consistent annual sales growth paved the way for another achievement as the brand just announced it has sold its two-millionth Forester in the U.S.

What makes it even more impressive is that the milestone was reached in less than a third of the time it took Subaru to sell one million Foresters in America in June 2013. The two-millionth Forester was sold to a regular Subaru patron, Brian Gerber, at Ruge’s Subaru in Rhinebeck, New York.

The Forester debuted in 1997 as a new option for customers who were looking for a smaller car with the performance and versatility of the Outback.

The model was first introduced in 1997 as a new option for customers who were looking for a smaller car with the performance and versatility of the Outback. The Forester debuted with a standard 2.5-liter boxer engine and was also offered with a Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system and 7.5 inches of ground clearance.

After 22 years in the market, the Forester is still one of Subaru’s strongest selling models. Its current generation is offered at the starting price of $24,295 with five trim levels. The 2019 Forester comes with the brand’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, LED low and high beam headlights, and standard 17-inch wheels. The model is also equipped with Subaru’s Starlink infotainment package, which includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, power windows, door locks, and side mirrors, remote keyless entry, and tire pressure monitoring.

However, the 2019 Forester is no longer powered by the old boxer engine, but a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which makes 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque mated to a continuously variable transmission.

Aside from the Forester’s two-millionth unit being sold, Subaru of America also reported its 91 st consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases, including 71 straight months of more than 10,000 Foresters being sold.

“Subaru has achieved 11 consecutive years of sales growth in the United States with Forester as a key driver of that success,” said Thomas J. Doll, President and CEO of Subaru of America. “Accomplishing this milestone reflects our commitment to providing customers with vehicles made to the highest standards of safety, capability, and reliability.”
