It looks like online model reveals are going to be the norm for the time being as auto shows remain canceled in the United States. But while some companies stage their own streaming events, there are others that opt to work with a launch partner.
Such is the case for Mitsubishi, which recently announced the official date for the debut of the 2022 Outlander. The automaker has partnered with online retail giant Amazon through its Amazon Live platform, a first of its kind for any automaker in introducing a new model since the onset of the pandemic.
The launch is scheduled on February 16, at 3:00 PM PT. Interested viewers can stream it through Amazon’s e-commerce company’s website or Mitsubishi’s own page. According to reports, one of the goals in setting up a vehicle launch with this scale is to recreate the feeling of auto show product reveals, which have been sorely missed by fans for the past year.
Mitsubishi previously teased the redesigned Outlander, but not much is known about the SUV. Based on what has been released to the media, the model will feature an updated version of the Super All-Wheel-Control all-wheel-drive system. However, it’s unknown whether it will get its power on the rear wheels with an entirely different electric motor, a disconnecting coupling, or a new form of engineering.
In terms of styling, the new Outlander is expected to have a bolder, stronger, and more rugged appearance compared to the outgoing model.
“The debut of the all-new 2022 Outlander caps off the reimagining of the entire Mitsubishi Motors lineup in the United States,” said Mark Chaffin, chief operating officer for Mitsubishi Motors North America.
The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is expected to arrive at dealerships across the US shortly after its debut.
