Ford recently announced two separate recalls affecting several units of the 2020 Transit Connect van and the Escape compact crossover.
According to the automaker, a total of 2,903 Transit Connect units are ordered to be brought back to dealerships in the United States and 584 more in Canada. The recall was reportedly prompted by a bug in the engine failsafe that supposedly allows engine temperatures to go past the initially declared safe values.
There are delays to the “failsafe cooling strategy” that could result in engine damage and increase the chance of a fire, Ford said.
The company also said it has already instructed dealers to update the powertrain control module at no cost to customers to ensure that the engine defect does not cause further problems even by accident.
Aside from the Transit Connect vans, 689 units of the Ford Escape crossover in the US and 19 units in Canada are also ordered for recall.
Based on the announcement, there is a possibility for their tire pressure monitoring system to be unable to catch low tire pressures. This means that drivers may not know when tire pressures are low, possibly affecting the handling performance of the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash.
Owners of the affected Escape SUVs are advised to bring their vehicles to a local dealer where the body control module will be replaced free of charge.
Ford is expected to send out recall notifications to affected customers soon.
