Mitsubishi’s high hopes for the Eclipse Cross did not exactly translate into excellent sales since it was released. But the automaker is aiming to remedy the problem by giving the crossover a few updates for the coming 2021 model year.
Ahead of the new Eclipse Cross’ debut, Mitsubishi shared a teaser for the refreshed vehicle, although there is not really much to glean from the photo. Still, it gives people an idea of what to expect from the upcoming model.
Based on the teaser, the 2021 Eclipse Cross will get Y-shaped running lights, a higher rear end, a new set of wheels, and a more aggressive-looking beltline. Its front end, meanwhile, gets a C-shaped chrome applique positioned just below the LED running lights. This chrome detailing draws attention to the coupe-like roofline of the crossover, although details on this feature have not been fully revealed.
Mitsubishi is scheduled to release the 2021 Eclipse Cross in the first quarter of the following year and is expected to be among the models from the brand that will feature the forward collision mitigation technology as standard equipment.
Joining the Eclipse Cross as another new release from the Mitsubishi is the Outlander. The model will be equipped with an improved powertrain, while its plug-in hybrid variant will get an upgraded all-electric driving range. The new-generation Outlander will follow the Eclipse Cross with a planned second-quarter release.
More details on the two models are expected to be released in the coming months.
