Kia‘s minivan is not going anywhere.
That’s what the automaker proved as it released the full details of the new Sedona for the 2022 model year.
Known as the Kia Carnival in the global market, the upcoming Sedona is getting new styling and interior for its fourth generation in the United States.
The vehicle was originally planned to look like an SUV, although judging by the latest details revealed by the company, this isn’t the case. What interested buyers can expect is a more stylish and more powerful minivan.
The 2022 Sedona is expected to be equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that delivers up to 290 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. It will be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission but, unlike its competitors Chrysler Pacifica and Toyota Sienna, it won’t be available with an all-wheel-drive option. Instead, the Sedona will be offered with a front-wheel configuration.
In terms of built, the new minivan is going to be larger than the current model sold in the market. It features a wheelbase that is longer by 1.2 inches, as well as an interior with enough space to accommodate a third-row for passengers and additional cargo.
The reclining captain’s chairs in the second row will still be offered as an option together with an eight-passenger configuration. The range-topping variants, meanwhile, benefit from a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a central infotainment screen of the same size.
Right now it’s still unclear when Kia plans to bring the new Sedona to the U.S., but it has announced that the model is going on sale in Korea soon. This suggests that the new-for-2022 model will arrive in American shores sometime in 2021.
The starting price for the minivan is expected to increase from the current $31,520.
