Chevrolet is equipping the next generation of the Silverado with a multi-function tailgate that is also found on GMC Sierra trucks. The new feature is expected to be available on the Silverado starting next year.

There will be one small change, though. For the Silverado, the latest add-on will be dubbed Multi-Flex. Other than the name, it will keep the same qualities as the special GMC tailgate called MultiPro.

Now, Silverado owners can enjoy more flexibility with their truck’s tailgate aside from the usual up and down motion made possible by using the key fob.

The Multi-Flex introduces a secondary section that runs through the entire width of the tailgate and extends all the way to the bow-tie badge. The new section can be folded down when the tailgate is in an upright position, making room for longer objects on the truck bed. There is also an additional flap that can serve as a load stop in the inner gate of the vehicle.

If Silverado owners place both the tailgate and the inner gate in a folded down position, the inner gate can also function as a step-up or a footrest.

The Multi-Flex tailgate is expected to make the Chevrolet Silverado more marketable, considering the tough competition in the truck industry.

Chevrolet is due to make the official announcement this month, where it will also release more details and features on the 2021 Silverado.
