Forty years in production, especially for a sedan in a market where buyer preference favors SUVs and pickup trucks, is quite the milestone. As such, Nissan is giving the Maxima a fitting celebration.

For the 2021 model year, Nissan is honoring its longest continuously-running nameplate in the United States with a special anniversary edition. On top of the unique anniversary badge, the new limited edition package is getting a two-tone exterior paint in Ruby Slate Gray Pearl for the body and black for the roof.

The 40th Anniversary Edition Maxima is built on the highest trim level in the lineup, the Platinum, and also includes other edition-specific add-ons such as black exhaust tips, heated rear seats, a red semi-aniline leather interior with red contrast stitching, and black 19-inch alloy wheels.

For the powertrain, it gets the same 3.5-liter V6 engine that delivers up to 300 horsepower when paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission. It has a retail price of $45,270 for the complete package.

Joining the special Maxima package is the base-level SV trim at $37,915, followed by the mid-grade SR variant at $43,075, and the Platinum trim at $43,145.
