Following the cancellations of several auto shows this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, some organizers are already starting to prepare for the staging of their respective events next year.

For one, organizers of the New York Auto Show, whose annual April schedule was initially postponed for August this year before ultimately getting canceled, have announced their show dates on August 20 to 29. The main event will be preceded by a press day on August 19.

This puts the New York show smack in the middle of the 2021 LA Auto Show that was rescheduled for May next year and the 2021 Detroit Auto Show slated for October. The Geneva Motor Show joins the list but as a media-only spectacle.

The organizers are also looking to expand the show’s indoor test track for electric vehicles to display more cars, SUVs, and trucks from that segment.

Organizers of the New York Auto Show are promising a bigger event than the previous ones as rescheduling to August will allow the organizers to hold the show at the Javits Center. The venue was recently expanded to provide an additional 100,000 sq. ft. of space to exhibitors and features a 53,000-sq. ft. “special event space” overlooking the Hudson River. It can accommodate more than 5,000 guests.

The group is also looking to expand the indoor test track for electric vehicles to display more cars, SUVs, and trucks from that segment.

“Looking at all the issues we’re facing, we have determined that moving the dates of the 2021 NYIAS to August is not only the responsible thing to do, but it puts us in a unique position to occupy the expanded Javits Center with an additional 100,000 sq. ft. of new exhibit space in the main floor and much more,” said Mark Schienberg, president of the New York Auto Show.

The event’s 2020 show was initially planned to hold the launches of several highly-awaited models such as the new Ford Bronco and Acura TLX. With the cancellation of the event, however, automakers opted to go for a digital launch for their vehicles.
