Being named the most fuel-efficient automaker in the United States is not going to stop Honda from making more significant changes in its models, including the upcoming 2021 Honda Insight.
For the next model year, the hybrid sedan is getting a slew of new safety equipment as part of the brand’s efforts to make its Honda Sensing technology standard on all models by 2022.
Dealerships across the United States are expected to get the vehicles soon after they roll out from Honda’s plant in Greenburg, Indiana.
With the inclusion of the Honda Sensing technology as standard equipment, the 2021 Insight gets a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
The Honda Sensing package includes safety tech features such as collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and traffic sign recognition.
All 2021 Honda Insight models will also have LED headlights and a push-button start. The EX trim, however, will also get the additional blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic monitoring. The Touring variant, on the other hand, will be also equipped with leather seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat, a navigation system, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
Both the LX and EX trims have fuel economy ratings of 55/49/52 mpg city/highway/combined, while the Touring trim is rated slightly lower at 51/45/48.
The Inisght’s entry-level LX trim will be available with a starting price of $22,930, excluding the $995 destination and handling fee—same price as the LX trim from the outgoing generation. The EX trim, meanwhile, gets a starting price of $24,810, while the range-topping Touring trim is priced at $28,840.
All Insight models are equipped with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine linked to a hybrid system that makes 151 horsepower.
The new standard safety features added in the model allows it to compete against its segment rivals such as the Toyota Corolla Hybrid and the upcoming Hyundai Elantra Hybrid.
