As if theF-150 isn’t already getting enough love from customers, reports are claiming that Ford is looking to equip its Raptor variant with a V8 engine for the 2021 model year.

In an article published by The Fast Lane Truck, Ford was revealed to be working on adding a V8 powertrain to the F-150 to make it more competitive against the Hellcat-powered Ram 1500 TRX. More specifically, the Blue Oval is believed to be planning to equip the F-150 Raptor with a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 from the GT500.

When equipped in a sports car, the V8 engine makes up to 760 horsepower. This means that the next F-150 Raptor could get a significant advantage over the TRX’s 702 hp.

Ford declined to comment on the report, but if the upgrade is in the works, it might not be long until the company shares some information.

However, a source from The Fast Lane Truck says the supercharged V8 is only going to be a limited production for Ford. It will likely be offered to customers only for a year.

While Ford has not confirmed anything about a V8 engine on the F-150 Raptor, the model is also being rumored for another engine option: a hybrid version of the standard engine.

Citing an unidentified source, the website wrote that the truck is expected to get its own Powerboost V6. It won’t be the same electrified engine that will be equipped on the regular F-150, but a “high-output” variant. It remains to be seen whether this is true and what kind of engine will be offered. But so far, a version of the twin-turbo 300-liter V6 found on the Lincoln models is believed to be in the running.

Ford declined to comment on the report, which isn’t surprising as the company has a tradition of refusing to comment on any future releases. But if the upgrade is in the works, it might not be long until Ford shares some information.
