Toyota officially introduced the new generation of the Tacoma at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show, where the truck was seen sporting a new grille design and revealed to have Android Auto compatibility on the menu. But just recently, the Japanese automaker shared more information on the latest upgrades for the Tacoma.
According to the company, the Tacoma now has a total of 32 different configurations, including trims from the performance-focused SR model and stylish SR5 trim, as well as the TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Unlimited.
For the coming model year, the Toyota Tacoma is also getting two engine options in the form of the 2.-liter DOHC four-cylinder that makes 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque and the 3.5-liter V6 that makes 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque.
The next-generation Tacoma will also be offered with the Toyota Safety Sense P, a collection of safety features that include a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Defection, Lane Departure Alert, High-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), and Automatic High Beams.
All 32 configurations are reportedly based on two cab types–the extended Access Cab and the four-door Double Cab–that are both available in 4×2 and 4×4 configurations across all trim levels. Also part of the configurations is a larger multimedia touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, and Android Auto compatibility.
For the SR model of the Toyota Tacoma, a 7-inch touchscreen display is included, while all other models will get an 8-inch touchscreen. For the entry-level trim, intermittent windshield wipers are new additions as well as an LED bed lamp. The SR Access Cab, meanwhile, gets blacked-out features, headlight surrounds, over-fenders, and 16-inch alloy wheels.
For owners of the SR5 trim, upgrading the model with the optional V6 engine entitles them to a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with 2-way power lumbar support. Owners of the Limited trim, on the other hand, are treated to a variety of premium features that include 18-inch alloy wheels, LED/DRL headlamps, LED fog lamps, and chrome taillight inserts. It also features an 8-inch touchscreen, a premium audio system, and a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat along with Smart Key technology.
The TRD Sport gets new 17-inch wheels, chrome insert taillights, passenger Smart Key, LED fog lamps, and the Panoramic View Monitor. These are also available in the TRD Off-Road model. However, while the Sport trim gets the Panoramic View Monitor, the Double Cab version is equipped with the Multi-Terrain Monitor. The TRD Sport also gets the brand’s sport-tuned shocks while the other TRD models get the tuned Bilstein shocks.
