Toyota is coming out strong with the 2020 Tacoma TRD Pro with a more rugged and stylish look for an off-road pickup. But it comes with a price.
According to a report published by Cars Direct, the highest trim of the Japanese automaker’s refreshed mid-size pickup will start at $45,080, inclusive of the $1,120 destination charge. That’s $1,000 more expensive than last year’s model and more than half the price of an entry-level Tacoma.
But looking at it from a different perspective, the updated pricing for the Tacoma TRD Pro puts the model just slightly above the range of its competitors.
The 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon retails for $45,040 with destination charge, while the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 has a starting price of $44,095. A 2019 Ford Ranger Lariat FX4 is available for $39,525 and a 2019 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X is offered at $34,285 MSRP. GMC’s AT4 version of the Canyon is also expected to be positioned above the Canyon All Terrain, which retails at $38,090.
Hefty price tag aside, the new-generation Tacoma TRD Pro comes packed with retuned Fox shocks, upgraded exterior cameras, new wheels, and LED lighting. But it does get more economically challenging for consumers looking to add a snorkel air intake or a six-speed automatic transmission, priced at $725 and $2,705, respectively. For what it’s worth, a manual transmission could be a better option as well as fewer off-road equipment and features since Toyota is only adding $200 on other models in the Tacoma lineup.
