The 2020 Hyundai Palisade recently underwent tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) where it earned a Top Safety Pick+ award.
The mid-size, three-row SUV scored Good in all crashworthiness tests and a Superior rating for its standard driver-assistance features. This makes the Palisade the seventh model in Hyundai’s current lineup to earn the institute’s highest badge of honor.
The Palisade is fairly new on the market, but it has steadily earned praise from consumers and industry experts since its launch for its modern design and engineering. Among its most distinct characteristics are its high-strength steel makeup, which includes crumple zones, and highly efficient driver-assistance features.
A Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS is achieved when a vehicle registers a Good score in all of the agency’s crashworthiness tests. In addition to this, the vehicle must also get Advanced or Superior scores for collision-avoidance features and headlamps, which is usually where other models flunk and fail in bagging the award.
For its tests, the Palisade met all the requirements to earn the award, although the headlamps for its lower-level SE and SEL trims only managed to get a Marginal rating.
The Hyundai Palisade’s corporate cousin, the Kia Telluride, also underwent testing and earned high marks despite missing on the “+” rating due to its headlamps. Other than the 2020 Palisade, the only other mid-size, three-row SUVs to earn the recognition are the Kia Sorento and the Palisade’s rival, the Subaru Ascent.
