Looks like Hyundai is upping its SUV game even more as the 2020 Hyundai Accent just got a whole lot better with its latest upgrades for the next model year.
The South Korean automaker already gained a 30 percent increase in profit since it added the Palisade and Kona to its lineup, proving just how profitable SUVs are these days. But there is no stopping the company from releasing more high-value models and improving its sedan and coupe lineups as well.
Following the launch of the 2020 Sonata and its hybrid version, Hyundai also introduced the 2020 Accent to the public with a slew of upgrades under the hood to make up for its lack of styling changes.
The new Hyundai Accent will be equipped with a 1.6-liter Smartsream four-cylinder engine with dual-port injection, as well as a new thermal management module and continuously variable valve timing. The engine reportedly makes 120 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and 113 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm. It has less power than last year’s model which makes 130 horsepower, but it has significantly better fuel economy.
According to the company, the 2020 Accent has an estimated fuel economy of 33/41/36 mpg city/highway/combined. Better than its predecessor which has 28/38/32 mpg rating.
Another addition to the new Accent is the Smartsream Intelligent Variable Transmission, which simulates gear shifts from an automatic transmission. It improves fuel efficiency by an additional 1.2 percent, although a 6-speed manual transmission is still offered as a standard for the Accent.
Also part of the upgrades is the standard five-inch color touchscreen that includes a seven-inch display audio system compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, hands-free trunk release, and heated front seats.
The 2020 Hyundai Accent will be available this summer starting at $15,195 for the SE trim with a six-speed manual transmission and $16,295 for the Intelligent Variable Transmission.
