Honda is looking more appealing to family consumers with the latest achievements of the updated 2020 CR-V Hybrid. Aside from booting impressive fuel economy, the model was recently awarded the Top Safety Pick recognition by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The award means that the hybrid model met the updated and stricter criteria set by the agency this year, where vehicles vying for the Top Safety Pick recognition must earn a Good rating in all six crash tests, score the highest marks in frontal-crash prevention (both in vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian categories), and at least an Acceptable or Good rating for the headlights.

The IIHS also instituted changes in the crash-test portion of the safety exam where previous winners managed to earn safety awards with only an Acceptable rating in the passenger-side small overlap test.

The criteria are even higher for the Top Safety Pick Plus rating.

For its part, the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid earned top marks in every portion of the crash tests and squeezed through the headlight test with an Acceptable rating. The lauded headlights are standard on every single one of the CR-V Hybrid’s trim, while the standard CR-V Touring’s headlights received Good ratings.

On the other hand, headlights for the more affordable trims of the regular CR-V only got Marginal marks.

The 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid is available for a starting price of $28,870, inclusive of destination charge. It is slightly cheaper than the base RAV4 Hybrid, but the Honda model is a little behind with 38 mpg combined versus Toyota/s 40 mpg estimate.
