Sedan sales are considerably dropping by the day that it’s no surprise a lot of automakers are killing their respective models to focus on trucks and SUVs. But not Dodge.

For the first six months of 2019, the 2019 Dodge Charger went up compared to previous years, a stark contrast of the current situation of the entire sedan segment.

“The Charger is unique. It’s a sedan, but it’s also a muscle car. It does so many things well. It can reach so many different people. And it has personality,” Dodge brand manager Kevin Hellman said.

“There’s nothing else like a Charger. How many other purple sedans do you see out there that look really good?”

Hellman also claimed that other sedans are easily replaced because they “don’t have personality.”

“They’re easily switched out for a [utility vehicle],” he said. “There’s nothing else like a Charger. How many other purple sedans do you see out there that look really good?”

While what Hellman is saying could be true, the Dodge Charger’s success could also be attributed to the introduction of the Charger Widebody that drew more attention to the model.

“The biggest thing is getting more rubber to our customers because of the higher horsepower and more traction. That’s goal No. 1,” Hellman said. “Other than the additional performance that we’ve added in terms of getting the grip to the ground, the car looks beautiful, too. It’s a nice little refresh to the car and some much-needed love for the Charger Hellcat.”

Another factor is the starting price of $30,000 for entry-level Chargers powered by a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. The outgoing Ford Fusion and Chevrolet Impala pale in comparison to what the Charger offers. Not even the Nissan Maxima, known as the “four-door sport sedan” once upon a time, has something that could compete with the Dodge sedan. All these plus a rear-wheel-drive setup and Dodge has mastered the sedan industry.

If there’s anything needed to bring back the glory days of sedans, muscle cars seem to be the answer.
