Hi there,
It seems like you are dealing with a combination of electrical issues in your 1978 Dodge Tioga 360. Given the symptoms and the fact that the vehicle starts when hooked up to another vehicle but stalls shortly afterward, here are some possible sources of the problem:
1. A bad Battery or alternator. A weak and failing battery will cause starting issues.
2. A faulty Ignition coil/Distributor and ignition module. Make sure the newly installed ignition coil is properly installed and seated. Even if you replaced the distributor already, double-check the ignition module inside the distributor, if it is functioning correctly.
3. A faulty starter. Troubleshoot the starter to see if it is defective or not.
4. Loose electrical socket terminal connections. Check all electrical circuits for the battery, alternator, starter, and spark plugs for loose sockets and terminal connections.
5. Fuel delivery issues due to clogged fuel filter or faulty fuel pump assembly. Troubleshoot those two parts to see if both are still in good condition and not faulty.
I hope all those details help you diagnose or shed some light on troubleshooting the problem in your vehicle.
