Hi there!
That popping on left turns only definitely narrows things down in your car. Sounds like we're looking at a front-end driver's side culprit. Here's what comes to mind:
1.) Worn CV Joint: A constant velocity (CV) joint connects your axle to the wheel and allows it to turn. When a CV joint gets worn, it can make a popping noise under pressure, especially during sharp turns. Since it only pops on lefts and needs a right turn to "reset," the bad joint might be more stressed on that left side turning motion.
2.) Strut Mount Issue: Your strut mount is a bearing that cushions the strut and allows it to turn. A worn-out mount can make clunking or popping noises, especially when putting stress on it during turns. Like the CV joint, a bad mount might be more prone to noise on one side depending on its condition.
3.) Sway Bar Link or Bushing: The sway bar helps reduce body roll while cornering. A worn sway bar link or bushing on the driver's side could pop under pressure during left turns. This is a less common cause, but worth considering.
Honestly, a test drive with a mechanic would help pinpoint the exact culprit. But based on the single pop on left turns only, my money's on the CV joint being the most likely offender.
If you're comfortable with some DIY, you can try jacking up the front end and checking for play in the wheel (CV joint) or visible wear on the strut mount. But if you're not sure, take it to a shop for a professional diagnosis. Don't want that popping sound turning into a bigger problem down the road!
If you’re not comfortable doing this yourself, a professional mechanic can quickly pinpoint the issue with a test drive and an inspection...
You may need some parts in the process, click this link to be directed to our website and enter the vehicle information, followed by the part name. Our system will display available parts for your vehicle.
Fingers crossed it's a quick fix and you'll have your Buick purring like a kitten again!
