Hello there!
Alright, that CLR cleaner smell from your vents in your 2023 Encore is definitely not normal. Here's what could be going on:
1.) Evaporator Core Cleaning Mishap: Sometimes mechanics use cleaning products on the evaporator core (part of the A/C system) to clear out mold or mildew. A little residue might be lingering and burning off, causing that chemical odor. This should clear up after running the A/C for a bit, but if it's strong or doesn't go away after a few days, take it to the shop that last serviced your A/C.
2.) Cabin Air Filter Blues: If the smell is more like mildew on top of the cleaner scent, your cabin air filter might be clogged and trapped some nasty stuff. Replacing the filter is easy and relatively cheap, and it could solve the whole problem.
3.) Leaking Mystery Juice: Less common, but there could be a leak from your coolant system that's getting sucked into the ventilation system. This can smell kind of sweet or chemical-ish. Look for any coolant puddles under the car, and if you suspect a leak, get it checked by a mechanic ASAP. Coolant leaks can be bad news for your engine.
My money's on option 1 or 2, but for peace of mind, swing by your local mechanic and have them take a peek.
You may need some parts in the process, click this link to be directed to our website where your vehicle information has already been entered. Simply enter the part's name into the search field to get started.
It shouldn't take long to diagnose and get your Encore smelling fresh again!
