The brake light switch is typically a safety feature that prevents the vehicle from shifting out of park unless the brake pedal is depressed. Check if your brake lights are not working when you press the brake pedal. If the brake lights don't come on, the switch could be faulty (even if it is new). Also, another culprit is a faulty shift interlock solenoid. It also prevents the shifter from moving out of the park without the brake pedal being pressed. If the solenoid is defective it can cause the issue you are experiencing. Lastly, check the fuse for the shift interlock solenoid. A blown fuse could prevent the shifter from moving.
