Honestly the best way is to soak the lifters in valvoline or mobile1 for about 24 hrs prior to install but on the rocker arms you go by TDC in firing order but don't torque them to spec until the second FULL rotation. And if you can , find a straight zinc additive to help break it in. But also drive it a little hard (nothing over 75mph for atleast 300 miles and when at 70 or so keep it there for 10miles , then 55mph 5 miles, 35mph 4,-5miles and 25 for about 3-5 miles. Repeat that 2 to 3 times at operating temp ( ac on and off). Thanks for your time. Dr.Automotive Mobile Services. Kevin

Hi there,
To prime new valve lifters, follow these general steps:
1. Gather the needed tools, such as a wrench set, engine oil, a bucket, and a lubricating additive designed for valve lifters.
2. Remove the old lifters (a complex task of removing the other related parts such as the valve cover, push rods, rocker arms, etc.).
3. Clean the lifter bores. It should be clean of oil and other debris. Use a lint free rag to wipe dirt or any residue.
4. Apply assembly lubricant or engine oil to the lifter body and the roller/foot surface. It will provide initial lubrication and prevent dry start-up.
5. Install the new lifters. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the specific engine involve.
6. Apply oil to the lifters. Submerged each lifter on a bucket with clean engine oil. Gently pump the lifter by hand to expel any trapped bubbles.
7. Install the lifters in the engine. Once it is primed with oil, install the lifters back to the engine in their correct positions.
8. Reassemble the engine.
9. Add oil additive. For proper functioning add lubricating oil to the engine oil.
10. Start the newly assembled engine.
11. Check for engine noise. New lifters may produce slight noise initially, but it should diminish as the lifters become fully primed and settle into position.
I hope this all helps!
