There are a few ways to tell if your PCM has been flashed:
- Check the PCM for a sticker. Many dealers will place a sticker on the PCM after it has been flashed. This sticker will usually indicate the date and time of the flash, as well as the version of the PCM software that was installed.
- Use a scan tool to check the PCM software version. Most scan tools can be used to read the software version of the PCM. You can compare this version to the latest version of the PCM software that is available from the manufacturer to see if your PCM has been updated.
- Look for any changes in the way your vehicle drives or performs. A PCM flash can sometimes cause changes in the way your vehicle drives or performs. For example, the vehicle may feel more responsive or have better fuel economy. If you notice any changes in the way your vehicle drives or performs after your PCM has been flashed, this is a good indication that the flash was successful.
- Be polite but firm. Let the advisor know that you are aware of the recall and that you would like your PCM flashed.
- Ask for a written estimate of the cost of the service before any work is done.
- Get the advisor's name and contact information.
- If you are not satisfied with the service you receive, ask to speak to the manager.
- You can also file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau or with your state's Attorney General's office.
