Tools & Materials: Jack and jack stands (or a suitable support for the door) Door hinge pin kit (should include pins and bushings) Basic hand tools (ratchet, sockets, hammer, pliers, etc.) Pry bar or flathead screwdriver Punch Grease Procedure: Prepare the Area: Ensure you're on a flat, stable surface. Roll down the window to prevent any accidental breakage while working. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery (this is a safety precaution to avoid any accidental short circuits if you touch any wiring). Support the Door: Using a jack with a piece of wood or some soft material on top, place it under the door to support it. Ensure the jack is positioned so it doesn't damage the door or interfere with the hinge replacement. You can also have a helper support the door for you. Disconnect Wiring (if necessary): Depending on the specific vehicle and the hinge's location, you might need to disconnect the wiring harness going from the door to the car's body. This is often found in a rubber boot between the door and body. Be careful, and remember how it's connected for reassembly. Remove the Hinge Pin: Locate the hinge pin(s). Some doors have two: an upper and a lower. Using a punch and hammer, tap out the old hinge pin. Depending on the design, you may need to remove a retaining clip or pin at the top of the hinge pin before you can tap it out. Remove and Replace Bushings: Once the pin is out, inspect the hinge bushings (small metal or brass inserts where the hinge pin goes). If they're worn or damaged, they'll need to be replaced. Using pliers or a suitable tool, remove the old bushings. Insert the new bushings from your kit. They might need to be gently tapped into place using a socket that fits over them and a hammer. Install the New Hinge Pin: Apply some grease to the new hinge pin. Align the door with the car's body and slide the new hinge pin into place from the bottom (or top, depending on the design). Secure the hinge pin with any retaining clips or pins that were originally present. Reconnect Wiring (if necessary): If you disconnected any wiring harnesses earlier, reconnect them now. Check Alignment: Before fully tightening any bolts or components, open and close the door several times to ensure proper alignment. Adjust as necessary to ensure the door closes smoothly and there are no gaps in the door seal.
Reconnect Battery:
Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Test: Ensure the door opens and closes smoothly without any binding or misalignment.
