Here are some things you can check if your 1999 Buick Park Avenue won't start:
- Battery: Check to make sure that the battery has enough power. You can do this by using a voltmeter to measure the battery voltage. The battery voltage should be between 12.6 and 13.2 volts. If the battery voltage is below 12.6 volts, the battery is dead and needs to be replaced.
- Starter: If the battery has enough power, the next thing to check is the starter. The starter is the motor that cranks the engine over. To check the starter, have someone turn the key to the start position while you listen for a clicking noise. If you hear a clicking noise, the starter is engaging, but not cranking the engine over. This could be due to a faulty starter relay, solenoid, or starter motor.
- Fuel: Check to make sure that the engine is getting fuel. You can do this by turning the key to the on position and listening for the fuel pump to turn on. The fuel pump should turn on for a few seconds, then turn off. If you don't hear the fuel pump turn on, the fuel pump is faulty and needs to be replaced.
- Spark: Check to make sure that the engine is getting spark. You can do this by removing one of the spark plugs and connecting it to a spark plug tester. Have someone turn the key to the start position and see if there is a spark at the spark plug. If there is no spark, the ignition system is faulty and needs to be repaired.
- Try shifting the car into neutral and then starting it.
- If the car is cranking but not starting, try spraying some starter fluid into the intake manifold.
- If the car is starting but then dying, check for vacuum leaks.
- If the car is not starting at all, check the fuses and relays.
You may need some parts in the process, click this link to be directed to our website where your vehicle information has already been entered. Simply enter the part's name into the search field to get started.
We hope this helps. Have a nice day!
