Hello JenPad.
To fix the problem, you will need to diagnose the cause of the issue. If you have a code reader, you can check for any trouble codes that may be related to the fuel gauge or fuel level sensor. If you do not have a code reader, you can try the following steps:
- Check the fuel level sensor: The fuel level sensor is typically located on the top of the fuel tank. To check the sensor, you will need to remove the fuel tank from the vehicle. Once the fuel tank is removed, you can inspect the sensor for any signs of damage or corrosion. If the sensor is damaged, it will need to be replaced.
- Check the fuel gauge: If the fuel level sensor is working properly, but the fuel gauge is still not working, you may need to replace the fuel gauge itself. To check the fuel gauge, you can apply a 12V voltage directly to the gauge. If the gauge does not respond, it will need to be replaced.
- Check the wiring/connectors: If the fuel level sensor and the fuel gauge are both working properly, but the fuel gauge is still not working, you may need to check the wiring and connectors between the two components. Inspect the wires for any signs of damage or corrosion. If you find any damaged wires, you will need to repair or replace them.
You may need some parts in the process, click this link to be directed to our website where your vehicle information has already been entered. Simply enter the part's name into the search field to get started.
We hope this helps. Have a nice day!

If you have replaced the pump / leveler and your gauge is still reading full when the tank is not then you have either an electrical or mechanical problem.
First you need to determine weather this is a stuck gauge in the dash cluster by removing the cluster and seeing if voltage is being applied. If this is the case then (USING a Digital Multi Meter) you would need to see where this voltage is coming from. This MAY be a short somewhere.
If you find the voltage is 0 yet the gauge is still reading full then you more than likely have a dash cluster issue seeing that without voltage the needle should read 0 or Empty.
This also applies for the reveres if you have a full tank and the gauge is still reading 0 after replacing the pump / leveler then you have either a break in the circuit or a faulty dash cluster.
IT IS quite possible to get faulty parts straight out of the box as well so its always wise to test resistance on the pins of the pump before instillation to ensure that the leveler is worker BEFORE reinstalling. This takes a few seconds with a DMM as long as you know what pins to check.
