Hi there,
The wiring circuit of your vehicle from the starter to the alternator is shorted, most probably. That is a clear faulty wiring issue. Given the age of your vehicle, it is possible the electrical circuit and other components are already worn-out and outdated. Please refer to a qualified mechanic to assist in the repair of your car for a thorough inspection and repair.I hope this helps!

It may be my interpretation but there should not be any wiring between the alternator and the starter directly
A couple of checks you can do.
- turn the engine over using a torque wrench, it should be less than maybe 90 ft pounds approximately
- remove the starter and test it with jumper cables or have it tested at a shop if a shop have alternator tested also
- using an ohmmeter make sure your chassis, engine cables are all at 0 ohms or close to zero, then you can check the positive
side for shorts, first checking the alternator and regulator for shorts
- if you do find that the positive, is reading less than 50 ohms to ground start disconnecting your electrical items, remove fuses, plugs , etc.
hope this helps, I helped a friend troubleshoot his 46 Ford flathead special
