Hi there.
An overheating engine can be caused by several factors, and diagnosing the exact problem can sometimes be challenging. However, I'll try to provide some insights into the potential causes based on the information you've provided.
1) Coolant Leak. The fact that you needed to add water multiple times suggests that there might be a coolant leak which can cause the engine to overheat. Check for any visible coolant leaks under the car or around the radiator, hoses, water pump, and other cooling system components.
2) Faulty Cooling Fans. The loud fan noise you mentioned could indicate that the cooling fans are not functioning correctly. The fans are responsible for drawing air through the radiator to cool the engine coolant. If they are not working properly, the engine may overheat, especially when the car is stationary or moving at low speeds.
3) Thermostat Issue. A malfunctioning thermostat or if it is stuck closed, will prevent coolant from flowing through the radiator, leading to overheating.
4) Water Pump Problem. The water pump circulates coolant through the engine and radiator. If it fails, the coolant won't flow correctly, leading to overheating.
5) Head Gasket Leak can allow coolant to mix with the engine oil, leading to overheating and other issues. Look for signs of milky or frothy oil on the dipstick or oil filler cap.
If you're unable to diagnose and resolve the issue yourself, it's essential to take your Ford Escape to a qualified mechanic or a Ford dealership for a thorough inspection and repair.
Once you've identified which part needs to be replaced, click this link to be directed to our website where your vehicle information has already been entered. Simply enter the part's name into the search field to get started.
We hope this helps. Have a nice day!

I would put fluid in it and make sure you bleed the system good if you still got the same problem I would look at the thermostat

Sounds like you need a new thermostat and possible a radiator if the issue continues after a new thermostat is installed
