I actually manual swapped an 04 Civic myself. I didn't run into any electrical issues but it really sounds like you may have the wires connected to the tranny solenoid swapped. I'd try that first thing.

Hello Tweety.
It sounds like you've already performed a lot of troubleshooting on your 2004 Honda Civic 1.7 with regard to the blinking green light and shifting issues. The P0974 code you've mentioned refers to a problem with the transmission pressure control solenoid A circuit. Here are some additional steps you could consider taking to further diagnose and resolve the issue:
A) Check wirings and connections. Even though you've mentioned that you've checked the wires and connectors, it's worth revisiting this step.
B) Inspect solenoid and harness. Examine the pressure control solenoid A and its wiring harness closely. Look for any signs of damage, such as frayed wires or corrosion.
C) Test the pressure control solenoid. Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the pressure control solenoid A. Compare the reading to the manufacturer's specifications. If the resistance is out of range, the solenoid might need replacement.
D) Scan for additional trouble codes. Sometimes, a single issue can trigger multiple codes. Scan the vehicle's computer for any additional trouble codes that might provide more information about related problems.
E) Inspect transmission fluid. Ensure that the transmission fluid level is correct and that the fluid is in good condition.
F) Perform Transmission Control Module reset. Some vehicles require a TCM reset procedure after replacing components. Check your vehicle's service manual or consult a mechanic to perform this reset if needed.
G) Transmission pressure test. If you have access to the proper diagnostic equipment, consider performing transmission pressure tests to determine if the pressure control solenoid is functioning as it should.
Given the complexity of transmission issues and electronic control systems, it's not uncommon for seemingly simple problems to have multiple potential causes. If you've exhausted all the steps and the issue persists, it might be time to consult a professional mechanic or a specialized transmission technician. Advanced diagnostic tools and expertise might be required to pinpoint the exact cause of the issue.
You may need some parts in the process, click this link to be directed to our website where your vehicle information has already been entered. Simply enter the part's name into the search field to get started.
We hope this helps. Have a nice day.
