Hi there,
There is no need to remove the intake manifold just to replace the spark plugs on the bank 1 side of the 2002 Mercury Sable 3.0L (non-DOHC). It is just challenging to install the new spark plugs since the firewall side engine has limited space between the engine and the firewall. You have to access bank 1 (firewall side) from underneath the vehicle. Unplug the negative battery terminal first. Then use a lifter to raise the vehicle. Make sure the engine has already cooled down. Use safety gear before starting. Remove/disconnect the spark plug wires or coils from underneath. Take note of the correct order of the wires and coils before removing them. Remove the spark plug by using a spark plug socket. Then, install new spark plug one by one. Tighten it according to the torque specifications. Reconnect the wires and coils in the same order it was removed. Lower the vehicle. Then reconnect the negative battery terminal. I hope this helps!
