Hello there.
As of my knowledge update, in September 2021, California's emissions regulations exempt vehicles manufactured before 1976 from the state's smog inspection requirements. Since your 1962 Chevrolet Impala falls within this exemption period, it is not required to pass an emissions test in California.
Even though your classic car may be exempt from smog testing, it's still essential to keep it well-maintained and in good working condition for both environmental reasons and the car's overall performance and longevity. Regular maintenance will help ensure that your '62 Impala continues to run smoothly and efficiently.
We hope this helps. Have a nice day!

it should be exempt given that its is a model prior to 1975.....however, if the car was not sold as new in the U.S. (i.e. it was originally from Canada, Mexico or some other country) then it would not qualify for the emissions testing exemption
