Hi there,
The transmission sensor and the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) are not exactly the same thing, although they serve related functions in the operation of the transmission. The transmission sensor is for monitoring the various parameters and relaying information to the tranmission control module (TCM). It monitors data such as transmission fluid temperature, gear position, and rotational speed of the input and output shaft. While the VSS is a specific sensor that measures the speed of your vehicle. It sends the speed information to the TCM, the speedometer gauge and the ABS (anti-lock brake system). I hope this helps!
