Yes. That is one possibility, a malfunctioning ECM (Electronic control module). Still, if those ignition coils are intermittently working. It is best to replace all of the coils if those were not serviced for quite some time. The other part that could be causing the problem is the Ignition control module (ICM). It is responsible for controlling the timing and firing of the coils. If the ICM is faulty, it can lead to issues with specific ignition coils not receiving proper signals, resulting to intermittent failures when you start your vehicle. I hope this helps!

I have an 04 f150 did exactly the same thing and it was the PCM. I myself went to my local salvage yard and got one for $20 just to check before buying a new one, and it's been running fine ever since. Never did purchase the new one lol. $369.00 is harder to come up with than $20
