I believe you would have to remove the valve cover and possibly the water pump.

NOT COMPLETELY, I HAVE SOLD MANY AND IF ITS LIKE THE ONES I HAVE HAD ON MY LOT THE ENGINE IS CHEAPER TO REPLACE THAN DOING THE TIMING BECAUSE OF LABOR.

No. You do not need to remove or lower the engine of a 2009 Chevy Traverse when installing a new timing chain. Although it requires you to remove certain components such as the front cover, timing chain tensioner, guides, and sprockets.
