No, atf in your engine is not good. There is a lot of detergents in stf. As a short term solution its ok. Some kind of oil is better than no oil

Hey Johannas. Putting ATF in your engine oil is never a good idea. Regardless of whether or not the additives in ATF are good for engine, ATF will change the viscosity of your engine oil. Your vehicle manufacturer built your engine to be lubricated by an oil of a very specific viscosity, and altering that in anyway could be detrimental to your engine. Not to mention that ATF is a 3-in-one fluid. It is a lubricant, detergent, and hydraulic fluid, whereas oil is only a lubricant. I hope this helps.

In most cases, adding automatic transmission fluid to motor oil reduces cleaning power. That's because the detergency of ATF is less than motor oil.

Hey I'll tell you why they use to do it burns the stuff out of your engine. But it was supposed to be such a small amount. That you just turn your car over and then you have to drain it back out now there's no way I'd do it but yes I've heard of it being done to older cars. That didn't have any sensors. And does not have coated engines. It would flat burn up your motor before you knew it
