Hello there!
Yes, a leak in the donut gasket can result in unmeasured air entering the exhaust system, leading to inaccurate readings by the oxygen sensors. P0420 trouble code indicates that the catalytic converter isn't functioning efficiently at Bank 1. Basically, the amount of oxygen going into the converter is not being burned. We have an article about this particular code. You can find more information here.
While it's good that your car runs and idles smoothly, the presence of a leak in the donut gasket should be addressed. Regarding checking for exhaust restrictions, attaching a pressure tester to the exhaust system can be helpful. To check for changes in readings when you accelerate, you can typically attach the pressure tester to an available port on the exhaust system. Common locations include the upstream oxygen sensor bung or the port on the exhaust manifold.
Given the mileage on your vehicle, it's also worth considering the possibility of a worn-out catalytic converter due to its age and usage. Consulting with a qualified mechanic who can perform a thorough diagnosis and inspection would be the best course of action to identify the root cause of the P0420 code and determine the appropriate repairs needed.
Once you've identified which part needs to be replaced, click this link to be directed to our website where your vehicle information has already been entered. Simply enter the part's name into the search field to get started.
We hope this helps. Have a nice day!

See if that's the only leak you have for sure. You can do this by using some sort of smoke/fog machine. I know there's other ways as well. If it is, I'd patch it using some exhaust sealer and see if it comes back. Any scanner should be able to tell you exhaust temp , and all your other readings for exhaust that the ECU reads.
