Hey LillBit! Have you tried checking your cooling fan? The cooling fan on your BMW is designed to continue running for a short period after the engine is shut off to help cool down the engine. If the fan is malfunctioning, it could cause a whining sound. Same with your power steering pump. If it's damaged—or if the belt driving it is slipping—that could also make the same noise.
You might want to check your alternator too. Because if the bearings in your alternator are worn out, they may cause some screeching when the alternator continues to spin after the engine is shut off.
It's also worth checking your transmission pump if your ride has an automatic transmission because that, too, can be the reason why you're hearing the whining noise. Hope this helps!

My "00" made a similar or possibly the same noise when my tensioner pulley started going bad. I can't say for sure that this is the problem for you but if you check all of the things that suggested before and still haven't found your problem look at your water pump and or the pullys. It's cheap and fairly easy to fix at home.

Sounds like something still powering or still switched to the on position

Hey wats up
Check the radiator cap. If the seal is worn on the cap pressure could be pushing out of it. And same with what the car parts guy said. I agree 100%. And have the car idle to see if you can hear that noise. Otherwise it could be just pressure building up with the heat of the motor and releasing somewhere after it's off.
