- Reliability is all up to you if you treat it right it'll last you forever. However BMW does get a bad reputation, because not everyone can afford to maintain the vehicles. As far as the valve cover it's a easy job if you have the right tools. It is recommended that you use new valve cover bolts. Many bolts are made of a soft aluminum and are one time use. This doesn't mean you can't use the same ones but it'll be at your risk. Just make sure you get the right torque spec for your specific make and model.
P.S. if your a first time BMW owner you should get torque s bits and sockets.

Sure you can replace it with the right tools and knowledge. But if you do it the work won't be under warranty. Meaning yes the parts might be but if a mechanic at a shop does it then all that work is under warranty. And if anything happens to the valve cover or relating to it then your covered under warranty. If you do it and something happens then your at a loss. Dave a dollar and take a risk, or spend more and be insured.
