Hello there.
P0688 is most commonly caused by a faulty PCM power relay or a wiring issue between the PCM and the power relay. Here’s what’s typically involved: A ground wire, power supply from the battery, power from the ignition when the key is turned to the ON position, power relay sense circuit, and power to the PCM.
P0688 and P0600 have a connection. P0600 is when the PCM is unable to communicate with other control modules through the serial communication link. Possible causes include low battery voltage, a faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM), and a PCM harness that is open or shorted. and has a poor electrical connection.
Begin by checking the possible causes listed above for both codes. Examine the related wiring harness and connectors visually. Check for damaged components and look for broken, bent, pushed-out, or corroded connector pins.
If you are unable to inspect the vehicle yourself, we recommend that it be inspected by a certified mechanic for real-time diagnosis to determine which part (s) require replacement (s).

Based on my experience, when a vehicle suddenly stops like yours did, it is often caused by a faulty alternator or battery. The alternator may not be properly charging the battery or the battery itself may need to be replaced.
