Hello!
You should not need to adjust the idle speed manually. I would consider cleaning the throttle body and idle control valve, as well as making sure there are no vacuum leaks. Is your check engine light illuminated?

If you mess with that xxxx /bolt without the proper tools and tester, your going to completely destroy the part. Those are factory preset and any missed adjustments will cause it to completely fail. Sounds more like a vacuum leak causing the issue.
