Hello!
I would check the battery terminals to make sure they are tight and not corroded, as well as the main grounding points on the chassis and engine. Does the engine feel like it turns over easily by hand, with a wrench on the front crank shaft bolt? If so, I wouldn't rule out a coincidental starter failure. I would highly recommend a cheap OBD2 scanner to help identify any faults that may be remaining.

Replace the negative battery terminal. I buy and sell a ton of Cruzes and I always replace more or less everything on the coolant system and always replace intake manifold and valve cover. But, before I buy anything double check your connections on your sensors. They can be real finicky. I hope this helps you out.
