Hello!
The easiest way to test TPS function is with an OBD2 scanner that is capable of viewing live data. There may be other pin point tests in a repair manual for your vehicle, with voltage targets and pins to test for power and ground.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but my 04 f150 with the 5.4 did the EXACT SAME THING, ended up it had jumped a notch of time and I had to install a new timing setup.
